Orgies English Style

The man who best captured the spirit of British orgies in the late 18th and early 19th century was Thomas Rowlandson (1757-1827) and he seems to have had the experiences to draw on.

A keen satirist, he was a good match as an illustrator of books by Henry Fielding, Oliver Goldsmith, Laurence Sterne and Tobias Smollett, but many of his later watercolors and drawings were for private pleasures - they were simply too explicit for the time.
